UNRWA-Jerusalem in danger of exile

Israeli municipal teams stormed on Tuesday Shufat refugee camp, in occupied Al-Quds (Jerusalem), under heavy police protection and toured the camp.

Local sources said that the Israeli teams carried out cleaning across the refugee camp in an unprecedented move, as this was usually done by workers from the United Nations Relief and Work Agency (UNRWA.)

Few hours later, the Israeli mayor of occupied Al-Quds (Jerusalem), Nir Barkat, raided the camp escorted by a large number of Israeli forces.

Barkat had earlier announced plans to remove UNRWA from the occupied city, accusing the agency of "operating illegally and promoting incitement against Israel."

Commenting on the Israeli municipality’s move, UNRWA expressed deep concern on the matter.

"While these threats are worrying, they will not change facts on the ground since UNRWA exists based on international resolutions and binding bilateral agreements."
