Hordes of Israeli settlers on Monday morning broke into al-Aqsa Mosque amid heavy presence of Israeli police forces.

Media sources said, quoting Jerusalem's Islamic Awqaf Department, that the Israeli police allowed 37 settlers to enter al-Aqsa Mosque in the early morning hours.

It added that 25 Jewish students of religious institutes and Hebrew universities, as well as 21 Israeli police and intelligence officers defiled the Mosque during the same period.

In a related context, the Israeli police on Sunday decided to ban a Palestinian woman from entering al-Aqsa Mosque for two weeks after detaining and interrogating her for hours.
