Hundreds of Palestinians on Tuesday afternoon gathered at al-Asbat Gate of the Aqsa Mosque to perform al-Asr prayer and participated in an open sit-in to protest the Israeli police chief’s decision to close the Mosque’s gates and use force to evacuate worshipers and employees from the holy site.

Religious and national figures in Occupied Al-Quds (Jerusalem) had called for performing al-Asr prayer and all prayers at al-Asbat Gate of the Mosque.

They also urged the Palestinian citizens in the West Bank to enter Al-Quds (Jerusalem) to participate in the open sit-in outside the Aqsa Mosque.

For its part, the Hamas Movement called on the Palestinian masses to march en masse to the Aqsa Mosque and challenge the Israeli decision to close it.

“Our resilient people will not allow the Zionist attempts to impose new faits accomplis at the Aqsa Mosque, which aim to detract from our exclusive right to it,”

The Israeli occupation authority has recently escalated its violations against the Aqsa Mosque, especially after the Jerusalemites rose up against the Israeli police’s closure of the Bab al-Rahma prayer area of the Mosque and succeeded in reopening it three weeks ago.
