The Islamic Awqaf Department in occupied Al-Quds (Jerusalem) slammed the Israeli authorities for obstructing reconstruction works on the eastern wall of the Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest site in Islam.

The Awqaf Department said in a statement that al-Aqsa’s eastern wall requires urgent reconstruction after cracks have emerged and the color of stones have started to fade.

The Awqaf authorities said it welcomes all serious initiatives to protect al-Aqsa and defend it against Israel’s desecrating grips.

It warned of projected attempts to spray chemical substances on the wall so as to wipe out its architectural idiosyncrasy in anticipation of its demolition.

A committee dispatched by the Awqaf Department to keep tabs on the damage wrought on the wall said no chemical substances have yet been sprayed. However, a discrepancy emerges in the colors of several stones.

The Awqaf authorities said it has been making plans in order to build up the eastern wall of al-Aqsa Mosque and patch up the damage at the soonest time possible.
