Dozens of Israeli settlers on Sunday forced their way into al-Aqsa Mosque via al-Maghareba Gate amid heavy police presence.

Local sources said that 39 Israeli settlers stormed al-Aqsa Mosque in the early morning hours and carried out provocative tours inside the compound before they left the site through al-Silsila Gate.

During the same period, Israel's Minister of Culture and Sport Miri Regev broke into the Mosque and toured its courtyards while escorted by heavily armed police officers.

Regev is known for her racist views towards the Palestinians, and she is one of the advocates pressuring for the establishment of the alleged "Temple Mount" in al-Aqsa Mosque.

Regev's break-in into the Old City and al-Aqsa Mosque in Al-Quds (Jerusalem) was part of her campaign for the upcoming Israeli elections.
